Lyne F.C v Merton Social (Surrey County Junior Cup)

Well the day started early and didn’t start well to be honest, it seemed as if everything that could go wrong with our preparation for the game did……….

I took the wife’s car keys to the ground by mistake and Richard very kindly offered to drop them back but that left us without a physio for an hour, added to that two players was delayed on public transport which Lee had to go to pick them up, which meant we was a coach down as well….

The players that where delayed then had to be reduced to the bench as team sheets had to go in 15 mins before K.O so a rejig of the starting line-up was forced.

After all of the above going on, you start to think it’s not going to be your day……….

The match started and straight from the whistle Lyne was under pressure from a very tidy Merton Social team and to be honest Lyne rode their luck for some fifteen minutes or so.

But on the 21st minute against the run of play, Lyne scored with a wonder goal from distance struck perfectly by Felipe.

1-0 Lyne

Only some five minutes later, Josh drove towards the 18 yard box and unleashed yet another terrific strike to find the bottom right hand corner of the Merton net.

2-0 Lyne

With Merton being two goals down at this point, they must have been wondering what they had done wrong to deserve the score line and to be fair they hadn’t done anything wrong just got undone by two top draw strikes. But before the end of the half Merton replied with a brilliant strike of the own leaving James our keeper with no chance.

2-1 HT

The game become finely balance and could so easily have gone either way, so at half time Lyne introduced its two latecomer Jordan and Ryan who instantly gave Merton’s a lot more to think about, constantly pressing and probing the Merton defence which was rewarded with believe it or not yet another worldy  this time from Ryan on his wrong foot which he smashed from some 25 yards to beat the Merton keeper.

3-1 Lyne

Merton then went up another gear and continued to put pressure on the Lyne back four and keeper. Merton got the rewards they deserved and we see yet another brilliant goal by the Merton team.

3-2 Lyne

It’s not often you will see goals of that calibre at the level both teams play at, but to see five in one game is outstanding and testament to both team and the quality they produced on the pitch.

Final Score 3-2 Lyne

Massive credit must go out to Merton Social for the way they played and on another day the result could have been so much different.

I must say people would have willingly payed to watch a great match like this, played by two very goods sides in the right manner.

The squad: James, Oat, Jerome, Ash, Tom, Ben, Luke, Felipe, Fudge, Josh, David, Jordan, Stuart, Ryan, Jake and Hitz.

Star MAN : Josh

Next up is North Leatherhead United in the League on Saturday 31st October, 2pm K.O @ Meadhurst.

Hope to see you there.
