Match report: University of Surrey A v Lyne F.C
This week we see seven different faces from the match last week named in the squad to face the University of Surrey.
The day started well with all players on time and an added bonus that we would be playing on one of the two top quality pitches Surrey Sports Park have to offer.
As with the vast majority of games it started pretty even with both sides feeling out the opponents and at the same time not committing to much forward in the early minutes.
Lyne then started to take control of possession and seemed fairly comfortable with the ball and to be fair was keen to regain the ball when it was lost.
Lyne continued in this vain for the remainder of the first half but was devoid of ideas when it comes to the final third and how to break down nine man defensive line.
The University of Surrey set their game plan out to defend and where possible try to hit Lyne on the break, this they done with great effect and discipline.
Ian and Lee hit the team with information and coaching points at half time, we also made two subs at half time which is rare but needed to find a way of getting through the wall of University of Surrey players.
Straight from the whistle Lyne was at them again constantly putting pressure on the Universities army of defenders but they stood resolute and dealt with everything we could throw at them. This continued for the whole of the second half.
The first half of extra time was like a re-run of the previous 45 minutes with Lyne chucking everything at the Uni team but not gaining any reward.
The second part of extra time the Lyne team started to get very frustrated with not being able to find the winner, which to be fair i can understand as we done everything right within reason apart from score.
Within this last period Lyne went down to ten men (Red card)but to be honest I think if we would have put on an extra player rather than going down to ten we still wouldn’t have scored.
Final score 0-0
Lyne F.C LOST 4-3 on penalties.
Our hats come off for the Victors University of Surrey for defending as if their life depended on it, but not only that defending with unbelievable discipline & fitness which isn’t an easy task to perform especially for 120 minutes.
Lyne F.C would like to wish the University of Surrey every success for the remainder of the season in League and Cup.
As every player know to lose in this fashion really hurts, but we feel with every negative comes a positive and that positive is that have had a taste of hurt and losing which is going to make us much stronger and less complacent. Furthermore we don’t want to feel that hurt again and the only way we can achieve this is get straight back to winning ways.
The squad: Kendall, Ashley, David, Jerome, Oat, Ben, Luke, Felipe ©, Fudge, Josh, Jordan, Tom, Joe, JT.
Star man: none given
Next up we have Bedfont and Feltham from the Combine counties League in a mid-season friendly match. B&F will be fielding potentially a full first team which will be a great test for Lyne F.C.
The fixture will take place on the 23rd January but venue details & time are to follow
