Match report: Quarter final of Surrey County Cup, Lyne F.C V Horsley (Reserves)
Well a new home ground for this match purely because of existing home ground is struggling with overplay and bad weather. So CB sports and Social Club was the venue (Thanks to our friends at C.B for being so helpful in setting it all up)
On what I can only describe as a very windy day (Gale force at times) the match commenced on what was a very good surface given the time of year.
The wind was proving to be a great leveller, with mistakes being made by both sides trying to come to terms with these very difficult windy conditions.
Lyne grabbed the lead on 6 minutes from a very strange penalty, Lyne have a corner and with the ball in the air after being delivered the Horsley keeper decided to just smash through the back of Jake for no apparent reason knocking him to the deck. This gave the referee little or no option but to give anything else apart from a penalty kick.
Up steps Josh who finished the penalty with ease.
- 1-0 Lyne
The remainder of the half could have gone either way to be fair with mistakes increasing with the wind and luck was starting to play a part rather than ability.
HT 1-0 Lyne
The first 15 minutes of the second half anything could have happened, it stopped being about game management and become more about conditions management and lady luck was starting to become more important.
Horsley got that bit of luck before Lyne with a 40 yard free kick that somehow the wind got hold of and guided the ball over a back tracking keeper.
On 60 minutes Lyne drove into the box and the ball popped out nicely for Josh but he still had a lot to do, but Josh done well and drilled the ball into the back of the net from 20 out.
The game from that point was trying to be managed by Lyne to its conclusion and on 85 minutes a well taken goal from Jordan made it 3-1 and you would think the game was over………
How wrong could you be with Horsley getting comeback goal only moments later and making it 3-2 and all to play for.
You would think with only a couple of minutes on the clock Lyne had it in the bag but we didn’t expect some 11 minutes of added on time I suppose due down to the ball being recovered after the wind caught it on many occasions when out of play.
Anyway, final score 3-2 and in the hat for semi-final so a good but painful at times end.
The squad: James, Oat, Ash, David, Tom, Jake, Josh (2), Felipe ©, Fudge, Ryan, Jordan (1), Stuart, Luke, Ollie, Adam, Ben.
Star man : Josh with two game changing goals.
Next up Parkside away in the League.
