Victory number 12 on the bounce.
Lyne F.C V North Leatherhead United
This week it was back to our normal K.O time of 2pm at our home venue The Meadhurst Club, the grass had been freshly cut and the surface was looking decent for our encounter with North Leatherhead United (NLU).
The preparation for the match went well this week with the only curve ball being having to share our dressing room with another home team which was all a bit odd (I hope they enjoyed our music, not that they had a choice : ))
The game started and it was all one way traffic in favour of Lyne, constantly playing football in the NLU half and retaining possession with confidence. This was mainly down to the NLU only being able to field ten players from the start.
It was only a matter of time before Lyne would make their breakthrough and that came in the 25th minute when Felipe was dragged down in the box and a penalty was given. Up steps Ryan, who confidently slides the ball into the left hand corner to make it 1-0 Lyne.
The floodgates had opened and we only had to wait six minutes for a further goal, this time from Jordan who took the goal brilliantly from an equally brilliant assist from Tom.
Just to finish off the half Felipe unleashes one of his text book thunderbolt strikes from some 25 yards which gave the NLU keeper no chance.
3-0 Lyne HT
The half time team talk was all about what we needed to do to improve on our first half performance, but to be honest the lads done what was asked before the start and that was to put the management team in a position where they could comfortably make changes going into the second half and continue to make changes during the second 45 minutes.
The second half pretty well started how the first half ended, but with a new look formation for the NLU team to contend with.
Within one minute of the restart Jordan completed his brace of goals with a well-executed striker’s goal to make it 4-0.
At this point Lyne seemed to slip in to training mode, just keeping the ball and going through patterns of play. Mind you this lead to a further goal in the 70th minute well taken by Ashley heading home from an assist by Ryan.
With the amount of ball Lyne was seeing and the way they was passing it around with overconfidence at times you sort of sensed a mistake may happen, and it did leading to a NLU goal making the score 5-1 in Lyne’s favour.
In the 76th minute Josh made it 6-1 with a powerful strike which beat the keeper on the near post.
Then in the last minute of the game the score line was made 7-1 from Bondy making his debut for the club.
Final score 7-1 Lyne.
In what was a very odd match, that felt as if at times that both teams had a chat beforehand and agreed that NLU would work their socks off and Lyne would go through pattern/keep ball session to keep the score respectable. I know this wasn’t the case but it did sort of feel like it at times…
So what did we get out of the game….?, three points, +6 on the goal difference and not a whole lot more to be honest.
I must say I have great respect for NLU for working hard for the whole 90 minutes and at no point giving up or looking like they were going to give up.
For our supporters who paid nothing to watch, we will reimburse you in full by way of performances in future matches!
