Farnham Park F.C V Lyne F.C
On a very hot day, Lyne F.C stepped out for our first official Pre-season Friendly match again Farnham Park F.C from Division 1 of the Aldershot & District League.
Prior to the K.O both managers and referee agreed twenty two and a half minute quarters allowing the players and referee to keep hydrated in the searing heat.
The first quarter was a fairly even affair to be honest with Lyne winning the possession battle but lacking a little in the final third, mind you this was quickly changed when JE went on a probing run with sublime pace only to be fouled inside the penalty area. The resulting penalty was calmly slotted away by JE to give Lyne a 1-0 lead in the first quarter.
After a pep talk, Lyne started with the same line-up in the second quarter. Lyne were playing some great possession football, looking after the ball and showing great patient, waiting for the right moments to open up the Farnham defence and most importantly making Farnham work hard to get the ball back which will prove to be an important factor later in the game. Mid way through the 2nd quarter we lost SM to a hamstring injury which I am pleased to say Richard (Physio) said wasn’t major but enough to rule SM out of any further participation on the day. SM was replaced by LW which was like for like with no disturbance to formation. At the end of the second quarter the score line remained 1-0 to Lyne.
A few more coaching points delivered by Lee, and the third quarter got underway. Lyne was now starting to boss the match and the last 5/6 weeks of pre-season fitness and training was starting to pay dividends. You could feel the team was galvanising more and more as the minutes ticked by and was gaining in confidence. Lyne started to probe and prod at the Farnham defence looking for opens but still retaining superior possession throughout the quarter, the pressure was rewarded by a further two well taken goals to give Lyne a lead of 3-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The talk prior to the last quarter was all about capitalising on the possession and taking full advantage of our tiring opponents which was created by Farnham having to work so hard to get the ball back. Furthermore the lads were asked to up the ante to produce more goals to reflect the game in the result. Well we got a reaction, and that reaction was 6 top quality goals all from fantastic build-up play with every player on the park contributing in some way or another in one of the six! Final score 0-9 to Lyne F.C
To sum the match up for Lyne in a few words: Fantastic goalkeeping with two top draw saves for two separate keepers, excellent defending including a header off the line, brilliant mid-field ball retention and work rate and clinical finishing from great build-up play by our strike force.
Massive credit must go out to Farnham Park as they only had 11 players available and at no point gave up, equally we would like to Thank Farnham Parks management and players for organising the match and making us very welcome.
A massive thankyou to Stuart for running the line for a half and taking some great pictures, Gary for also helping us out by running the line for a half and Sue for washing the kit.
MOTM: Jake H (Which we are proud to say is a product of Lyne F.C youth system)
Well done all!
Nigel, Lee, Ian and Richard
