Match report: County Cup against LM United.

Once again things didn’t go perfectly with the match as we found out on arrival we had the smaller pitch of the two at Meadhurst and a very wet smaller pitch as well.

Pre-match went well though with all the lads up for the challenge and equally it was nice to see one of our youth section (AJ) involved in the whole warmup. Well done to A.J and hope you enjoyed your day with the first team!

This initiative is not a one off as we will be inviting various players from various age groups to join us on a match day and get a feel for pre-match preparation at our level and what we expect from our men’s team.

Right…. back to the match which all started fast and furious with both teams struggling to come to terms with a poor small surface. Lyne continued to put the pressure on however and on 9 minutes took the lead well put away by Ryan and assisted by Luke.

  • Lyne 1-0

With 22 minutes on the clock we entered a very short period of mayhem!,  firstly with Jerome allegedly giving away a foul some 35 yards out but the ball visibly hit our opponent arm prior to this but nothing was done and While players where still engaged with the official a quick free kick was taken and smashed in the back of the net **Goal LM United and my thoughts on the whole dreadful episode is best not said on a public website!

Going on from this Lyne then had a hammered on shout at a penalty that was dismissed by the official and play continued.

On 27 minutes Lyne regained the lead with a great second goal of the day from Ryan.

2-1 Lyne

The surface was becoming difficult for both sides to deal with and  it was all about keeping you footing and reducing your mistakes.

HT 2-1 Lyne

The half time team talk took place and off we went again.

With only 5 minutes gone in the second half Jordan increased Lyne’s lead with a well taken goal.

Three minutes later Jake polished it off with yet another decent goal making it 4-1 Lyne.

Unfortunately Lyne didn’t make it easy for themselves conceding a penalty mid-way through the half making it 4-2 and all to play for.

Lyne however managed the game out with a final score of 4-2.

Tricky game today, and ugly at points but football is all about winning and that’s what we done!

Into the last 16 of the county cup, fingers crossed for a good draw next week.

The squad:
