Lyne F.C 4-0 Burpham F.C (Surrey County Cup 4th round)
This game could have been in doubt considering the bad weather we have had for the past week or so. But the groundsman at Meadhurst managed to do enough to the ground to get our match on.
The surface was very sticky especially through the middle as you would expect. Our game plan was simple but effective and that was to use the wide areas to maximise advantage and reduce potential condition driven mistakes.
The game started very evenly matched with both Lyne and Burpham having early opportunities on goal, but neither team were able to convert. The one that was converted however by Olly was chalked of by the Referee. I am not a 100% sure why the goal was disallowed but I believe it was for an alleged foul on the keeper.
After the first ten minutes or so Lyne started to get a grip of the game and conditions but we had to wait until the 30th minute to reap the rewards of our good possession. The breakthrough came when Felipe hit a shintastic strike from 20 odd yards which found its way into the back of the net.
- 1-0 Lyne
Six minutes later Lyne struck again, this time off of the back of a defensive mix up which Jake pounced on to neatly tuck away a good poacher’s goal.
- 2-0 Lyne
Lyne continued the remainder of the half with decent possession but Burpham was a constant threat when this possession broke down.
HT 2-0 Lyne
The half time team talk was all about doing the right things in the right areas and a massive emphasis on game management.
The second half got underway and we didn’t have long to wait for Lyne’s 3rd goal which this time we are pleased to report came from a third man run excellently executed by Josh who was left with only the keeper to beat which he done in great fashion.
- 3-0 Lyne
For a further 20 minutes Lyne continued to try and retain possession and to be fair done so with a fair amount of success, but Burpham still refused to throw the towel in and always looked like there was a potential of them clawing one back.
Fortunately for Lyne the game was killed by Fudge in the 70th Minute with a great strike from some 25 yards which went top bins to finish the cup tie.
The following 20 minutes Lyne played the game out in a very professional manner to keep a well-deserved clean sheet for our keeper Kendall!
FT 4-0 Lyne
Our thanks must go out to Burpham who made the match competitive for the whole of the 90 minutes and we don’t feel that the 4-0 score line is a true reflection of this match played the right waylay and in the right spirit
Way and in the right spirits.
Good luck to Burpham for the rest of the season and we are sure they will gain promotion and
Become a premier side next season.
