Frimley Green F.C  V  Lyne F.C Tuesday 18th August.

Lyne F.C received an invite on Sunday evening From Frimley Green asking if we could put a team together for a mid-week friendly on the Tuesday.

With a few of the players injured and a few with work commitments we thought it would be tough to get a competitive team out,  however the response from the players was very positive so the game was on.

The first five minutes of the match Lyne was under a fair amount of pressure and became a little unsettled, unable to retain the ball and panicking a bit when pressed. But that soon changed and the lads soon got in their stride doing the right things and keeping their composure and discipline.

Lyne Created several good goal scoring opportunities from this point and in quick succession but alas none ended up in the net.

Then the game reached a pivotal moment, when Frimley were awarded a lifeline by way of a penalty for hand ball in the box. Up steps the Frimley penalty taker and a fantastic save for the second time this pre-season was made by James in the Lyne sticks.

This seemed to ignite Lyne even more creating yet more chances before the break, but the half time score was 0-0.

The half time team talk was as always about our positive and a few coaching points on our minimal negatives.

The second half commenced and Lyne came out with their tails up, playing some fantastic football against our senior opposition, so much so that it looked as if the levels were the reverse.

Lyne took the lead with a top draw through ball to Jordan, who still had a lot of work still to do but calmly slotted the ball away to give Lyne a well-deserved advantage.

  • 1-0 Lyne

Shortly after the score was level from a well struck diagonal which found a Frimley player in space who put the ball away (To be fair a well taken goal from a great delivery)

Lyne was undeterred by the score being levelled and went about their business once more soon to be rewarded with a second goal from Jordan who once again showed us his class up front.

2-1 Lyne

Lyne continued to pile on the pressure, and from the edge of the 18 yard box Felipe received the ball and with a well taken snap shot banged the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the Frimley goal.

Lyne sensed the game was won and played out the remainder of the half with outstanding discipline and energy to achieve a 3-1 victory over Frimley green.

The team tonight were outstanding on every level and each and every member of the squad contributed to a fine victory over a side several levels above us.

There was a lot of interest shown afterwards towards in our players which as a management team we understand will happen as we continue to progress as a team, but alas we didn’t return the gesture of interest as we have what we want,  a very very decent settled squad!!!

Our thanks go out to Frimley Green F.C  for their hospitality and for hosting this match and we would like to wish them a very successful season.

Further thanks go to Scott for doing the video highlights, Sue for washing the kit, the handful of supporter that made the trip and most of all the players who make it all happen!

The team: James, Kye, Hitz, Justin, Ryan E, Stuart, Luke, Felipe (c) (1), Fudge, Oat, Jordan (2), Ryan A, Joe, Scott
