A County Cup fixture against what would be our strongest opposition of the season saw us take on an SYL premier side with only a bare 11 players, however they all put in a fantastic effort to push Links all the way. Even when we went down to 10 players with 15 minutes left you wouldn't have realised which team was the Premier side.
Although we never competed for the first 20 minutes and found ourselves 5-0 down with some absolutely woeful defending. We started to get our bodies in the way, get to the ball first, challenge for headers, and generally do all those things that require effort in order to get something out of any game.
We started to take the game to Links like the punch shy Heavyweight boxer who had just been knocked down, and started to deliver some big shots of our own, the belief came back and we scored 3 goals in quick sucession.
Half time 3-5 to Links.
Some strong words during the interval, which everyone agreed with, and although Links came back at us, we defended well, and we again got some good possession and scored a great 4th goal.
After nearly equalising twice Nick however turned his ankle and had to come off, so with no subs and now 10 players, we still came at them and had the odd chance to force extra time.
Alas, Links got away down our left and sneaked their 6th goal and seal the win, but we had clawed our way back into it by sheer hard work, and if we had only played the last 50 minutes we would have beaten them 4-1.
Still our lads gave everything today and everyone is proud of you.
