Seven wins on the bounce………

League game 2 versus Guildford Rangers.

Well arrived at the ground at our customary 12.30pm for a 2pm K.O to be confronted by a choice of pitches which believe it or not was only six paces wider that the 18 yard box either side….. Tricky!

But as they say you can only play on what is on offer and that exactly what we did.

The evening prior to the match we had one player drop out and on the morning of the match we had a further fall fail of sickness, so a bit of a rejig which isn’t too much of a problem given the strength of the squad.

First Half.

Guildford Rangers was keen to replicate their performance the week prior by coming out of the blocks early and putting some pressure on the Lyne F.C back four.

Lyne had already discussed this prior to K.O and was well prepared for the early fast tempo and pressure which Guildford had to offer.

After ten or so minutes Lyne started to settle and play some decent football and turn the pressure the opposite way asking questions of the Guildford back four on a number of occasions.

On the 15 minute mark, Jordan got into the 18 yard box only to be fouled by the centre half to give Lyne the penalty.

Up stepped  Jordan who put the penalty with ease.

  • 1-0 Lyne

Lyne continued to put pressure on following the goal but to be fair to Guildford they equally posed a threat on several occasions.

On 39 minutes a great through ball by fudge was played to Jordan who despatched an equally great shot on goal giving Lyne a well-deserved 2-0 lead.

  • 2-0 Lyne

Well with a minute of the first half left, Lyne had a bit of a mix up in mid-field which presented Guildford with a decent opportunity to drag a goal back which they did with confidence.

Half Time 2-1 Lyne.

You just knew that the late goal Guildford scored in the first half would give them increased confidence to possibly go on and get something out of the game, and our job was to take that confidence away from them early doors in the second half.

As expected after the re-start the game got somewhat livelier and more open at times as legs started to get a little heavy.

Lyne must have created 6-10 opportunities on goal in this half but they was either missed or well saved by the Guildford keeper.

Not to say that Guildford didn’t have their own chance as in one particular play, the Guildford striker was through on goal with only the on charging Lyne keeper to beat, but Ben got in behind James (Who do enough to distract the striker) leaving Ben to clear the ball very close to our goal line.

The game then petered into a game of frustration and the final whistle was blown.

FT 2-1 Lyne win.

A good all round performance today by the Lyne team in yet another different type of football on a difficult sized pitch.

Great credit should go to Guildford rangers who are a very strong side who play some good stuff!!, they will be up with us at the end of the season along with Parkside.

Squad: James, Oat, David, Hitz, Tom, Ben, Luke, Felilpe ©, Fudge, Jake, Jordan (2), Stuart, Ollie, Luca, Josh (Injured)

Star man this week went to Ben for taking a yellow for the team and a great clearance when the pressure was on!!
