Manorcroft United 0-2 Lyne F.C
The weekend sort of started on the Thursday and Friday of this week with all of the players receiving all of their new tracksuits and training wear.
So up comes Saturday with the whole squad looking the same was yet another benchmark achieved in the new Lyne F.C men’s journey.
Pre match went well, with Oat passing a fitness test and given a reserved all clear from Richard the Physio only to play if needed, and good to see Justin back doing a bit of light work on the side-lines after a fairly long time out with injury.
The match started at a furious pace and to be fair that tempo continues for pretty well the whole of the first 45 minutes. Both teams where playing some good stuff but only to be cancelled out by two very good defensive lines.
Manorcroft was bang up for this one and by reducing Lyne’s passing options and restricting us to inevitably go somewhat longer than we would have liked. These long balls seemed to be always dealt with by the Manorcroft defence time and time again.
Lyne’s opened the goal scoring though from a free kick in the 32nd minute some 20 yards out. Up steps Felipe and with class bent the ball hitting the inside of the right post and into the back of the net.
At half time as usual a lot of very good coaching points were delivered by Ian and Lee in preparation for the second half.
The second half got underway and Manorcroft came out with a new vigour about them and started immediately to ask questions of Lyne as a whole, putting under some pressure.
That storm of pressure went on for some ten minutes or so until Lyne regained their composure and started to play once more.
At this point the match was fairly even with some great football be played by both sides.
As the clock ticked on it was looking more and more like we wasn’t going to see a goal in the second half and the score line was going to remain the same. But with Manorcroft pushing for the equaliser and committing body’s forward you sort of sensed something was going to happen. Fortunately that something went Lyne’s way with a well struck ball from Josh to Jordan who had a bit of fortune on his side with beating his man then went on to finish the goal with style.
With only three minutes on the clock the match was played out to a conclusion.
Final Score 2-0 Lyne.
Massive thanks must go to our hosts, Manorcroft United who are a complete credit to football, played decent stuff, conducting themselves properly on and off the pitch and made us feel so very welcomed.
Further thanks to our referee on the day who added to a very entertaining game and kept it flowing.
