Lyne F.C  V  Spelthorne sports

It’s all a bit mad really, the idea of a men’s team was only conceived on the 22nd April this year and we only started getting the team together as of the 11th May.

Now on the 18th July we are playing a senior level outfit which many would have thought not possible in such a short time scale.

But here we go………………..

Yet another hot day for football, this time at Egham Leisure centre on what can only be called a tight pitch.

First half

Spelthorne as expected came out of the blocks early doors, putting pressure constantly on our back four and with very few minutes on the clock Lyne F.C conceded a penalty giving Spelthorne the potential to go one up which at that point in time they was worthy of.

Up steps the penalty taker only to put it wide of the right hand stick and Lyne breathe a big sigh of relief.

Unbelievable only ten minutes later Lyne concede penalty number two, this time drawing a fantastic save from the Lyne keeper James keeping the score line at 0-0.

At this point Lyne seemed to find their mojo and started to sense that this may be their day, looking after the ball much better than in the early stages and more imminent on regaining possession.

This paid big dividends leading to a driving run from Felipe who was hooked down on the edge of the Spelthorne’s 18 yard box.

The resulting free kick leads to a 1-0 lead taken brilliantly by todays captain Felipe.

HT 1-0 Lyne

So many positive things was said to the Lyne team at half time, given that they rode the early storm and started to take the game at times to our senior opposition.

But can you believe it, Lyne concede penalty number 3 (All of which I must say was pens), so with one wide, one saved it was odds on favourite to be converted and it was to bring the score-line to 1-1.

Lyne F.C were still resilient in their play, not giving into the  superior level team. Lyne created various opportunities through the middle where Spelly were their most vulnerable at times  but none of them come to a just end.

Spelthorne seemed to wear down Lyne and develop some movement with their passing, creating holes.

Spelthorne created their second goal by getting to the by-line and cutting the ball back for a well-executed finish.

And again Lyne dug deep but were broken in quick succession with Spelthorne’s penultimate goal.

With ten minutes left Lyne F.C started to push as hard as they could to get back into the game, creating a few good opportunities but none came to fruition.

Final score 3-1 to Spelthorne Sports

The Lyne F.C management team are very pleased with the progression the team have made in such a short time and consider today a moral victory was gained.

Lyne F.C would like to thank our friends at Spelthorne Sports for agreeing to the friendly and wish them every success in the coming season.
