Sheerwater  Reserves V  Lyne F.C

Well this is not what we were expecting!!

Based on the previous season this should have been a completely different game, but alas Sheerwater have inherited a very decent u21’s side from Farnham in the closed season.

The game was busy from the off, with Sheerwater pressing Lyne back in all the early stages of the game but against the run of play Lyne went one up  with a well-executed goal by Jordan.

Lyne then found themselves conceding a free kick shortly after, the free kick was driven low past our wall into the back of the net even though Ryan our keeper did manage to get a hand to it.

Sheerwater second goal was claimed by the pitch, by way of a large bobble which helped the ball on its journey to the back of the net.

Lyne then found themselves conceding a penalty driven in from a semi wide position that the defender didn’t have time to blink, but a penalty was given for hand ball and the penalty was converted with confidence!

3-1 HT

Lyne come out relatively strong in the second half and started to press higher up the pitch but we always looked somewhat prone to the Sheerwater counter attack when they nicked possession, these counter attacks lead to two further goals in the second half with a consolation goal scored by Oat for Lyne making the final score

O.K this is an unfortunate result for Lyne F.C, but what the game did is give us lots to think about and posed many questions which the management team will go through over the coming days. But one of the big factors was that sheerwater was very organised in the way they played and obviously had spent many hours on the training ground and pitch to achieve this organisation.

I must say that I think we would have had less difficulty in playing Sheerwaters first team and going forward I would expect to see a large percentage of these ex Farnham boys making appearances in the first team in coming weeks.

All said and done the result was deserved by Sheerwater as they played some very decent football on the day.

Lyne F.C would like to wish the Sheerwater club every success in the coming season and thank them for hosting our pre-season friendly with them today.

So the men’s section go back to the training ground and start to address the issues arising from today’s match and prepare for an away fixture against Dunsfold next Saturday, but rest assured the management team would not change any of our selections for this team as we know we have the right players of the right level and believe in each and every one of them to achieve rewards in the coming season.

This is what pre-season is all about, getting fit, getting organised and getting ready for the League to start in September.

Six weeks to go!!!
