Straight eight in County Cup
So with seven wins under our belt we entered the first round of the County Cup looking for our eighth.
The day started with us bowling up at the fantastic Surrey sports park which offered some top draw surfaces to play on.
The day got better by way of our opponents being brilliant host offering soft drinks and oranges for our half time which we all thought was a great touch and very much appreciated.
The match itself was a very well-mannered affair, with both team’s playing the game in the correct spirit aided by a very capable referee.
The match started with both teams feeling their way and testing the water with each other to gauge the level of opposition for the day.
After those five minutes Lyne started to turn the thumb screws, controlling possession and gradually squeezing into the final third.
On 10 minutes Lyne was rewarded with a well struck goal from Felipe assisted by a great layoff but Fudge.
- 1-0 Lyne
On 24 minutes Lyne struck again with a sublime phase of play assisted by Felipe and slotted away by Ryan.
- 2-0 Lyne
We had to wait until the 43 minute to see the next goal that came from a decvent delivery by to that was headed perfectly away by Jordan
- 3-0 Lyne
The half time team talk was about keeping discipline and keeping momentum which Lyne did and was rewarded with yet another goal this time from David with the assist going to Ryan.
- 4-0 Lyne
On 47 minutes a good assist from Jordan arrived at the feet of Brother Ryan who slotted with ease.
- 5-0 Lyne
On 53 minutes Lyne seemed to lose their concentration momentarily and was punished conceding a soft goal.
Conceding this goal seemed to reignite the Lyne team and within five minutes of the restart got back into goal scoring ways once more, this time from a corner delivered by Felipe met perectly by the head of Ashley.
Unbelievable the moment many have dreaded arrived when Ben laid the ball through to Stuart who blasted the ball into the back of the net (Oh dear not going to hear the last of that one)
On the 83 minute mark Felipe assisted Ryan who scored his second of the match.
And to polish things off nicely 0n 84 minutes tom slide a ball through to Ollie who rounded the keeper to make the final score.
Even though the score line shows a resounding victory to Lyne, total respect goes out to the Millmead team who battled through the whole 90 minutes and didn’t pent any frustrations out in any way. The Millmead team are a complete credit to football and great hosts. Lyne F.C would like to thank Millmead for their hospitality and wish them every success in the season ahead.
The team: James, David (1), Ashley (1), Jerome, Tom, Jake, Luke, Felipe(1) ©, Fudge, Ryan (2), Jordan (2), Stuart (1), Ben, Hitz, Ollie (1), Josh injured and not used.
Star man this week goes to Ryan but could have been any one of the 15 that played.
Next up is Manorcroft United in the League on the 3rd October away.
