The journey to our first ever League game.

On the 21st April this year the idea of a Lyne Men’s was conceived and within a week a management team was formed to drive the project on.

Recruitment started with a vengeance and we found ourselves in a position that we could hold our first ever training session on the 11th May.

The management team from this point continued to recruit and continued to train until our first ever Lyne F.C men’s competitive friendly on the 14th June.

The match against the Billy Jeffrey’s select 11 proved to be a great success and the team started to take a positive shape.

Yet more recruitment after that, identifying what we required to fill any possible weekness and of course yet more training.

In the weeks that followed we have had many pre-season matches and they are as follows:

5th September 2015 Lyne F.C Worplesdon Pheonix F.C 2 – 1
29th August 2015 Royal Holloway Old Boys FC Lyne F.C 1 – 2
18th August 2015 Frimley Green F.C Lyne F.C 1 – 3
15th August 2015 Lyne F.C Worplesdon Pheonix F.C 3 – 0
8th August 2015 Dunsfold F.C Lyne F.C 1 – 5
1st August 2015 Sheerwater F.C Lyne F.C 5 – 2
18th July 2015 Lyne F.C Spelthorne Sports F.C 1 – 3
11th July 2015 Lyne F.C Worcester Park F.C 1 – 5
4th July 2015 Farnham Park F.C Lyne F.C 0 – 9

Ok many would say a mixed bag of results, but to those that know football and the levels within it they would say what a decent pre-season that is!

Of our 9 pre-season fixtures we have only played teams from our level or high and in many cases much higher.

Dunsfold and Farnham park are about the level we are in the football pyramid and our stats on those two games was won 2, for 10, against 1

The next level up we played was Worplesdon A from the Surrey Intermediate Premier Reserves League with result being 2-1 win for Lyne.

Yet another level up we played a very good Sheerwater Reserves outfit from the Surrey Elite Reserves League and came unstuck on this occasion losing 5-2. The sheerwater reserves team are currently sitting top of their respective League and I have no doubt they will be there at the end of the season.

Next up the pyramid we took on Worplesdon Phoenix from the Surrey Intermediate Division 1 in which Lyne ended up with a victory of 3-0.

Now reaching the dizzy heights of  the Surrey Intermediate Premier we took on a very good side in Royal Holloway Old Boys and once again Lyne F.C ended up with another victory 2-1

Enter the boys from Combine Counties 1 yet another level up again, first up was Worcester Park, and if it wasn’t for some indifferent goalkeeping (Not from one of our resident goalkeepers I may add) the score line would have been so much different from Lyne showing a 5-1 lose.

The second of the Combine Counties 1 teams that we took on was Frimley Green, in a mid-week match under light in which Lyne put in a fantastic performance and beat them 3-1.

Last but not least we take on a Combine Counties Premier outfit, Spelthorne Sports. We proved to hold our own against a very strong side and were 1-0 up at half time but even though we continued to threaten the Spelthorne goal in the second half we ended up losing 3-1 to what should be a much superior side.

So what do we take from all of the above, well it’s very simple…….. in a very short period of time since 21st April we as a management team and as a squad we have work relentlessly to achieve a team that Lyne F.C as a whole can be proud of and have we achieved that…… Oh yes!!!

Good luck to all the boys and girls in Lyne F.C for the coming season from all in the men’s section and we hope we can bring you some silverware to the club at the end of the season.

Our season starts this Saturday with a home League fixture against Parkside United @ the Meadhurst Club, Sunbury. 2pm K.O

Hope to see you there.
